عُقد اجتماع في وزارة الداخلية برئاسة وزير الداخلية والبلديات أحمد الحجار ووزير العدل عادل نصار، بحضور المعنيين، لمناقشة ملف السجون وتسريع المحاكمات في لبنان. في نهاية الاجتماع، أعلن وزير العدل عادل نصار أن الهدف من اللقاء هو تفعيل المحكمة الموجودة في سجن رومية وضمان أن الإجراءات المتبعة تحترم حقوق الإنسان وحق الدفاع، مشددًا على أن الجميع يعمل بشكل إيجابي لإنجاح هذه الإجراءات.

وأضاف نصار أنه سيتم البدء في العمل بالمحكمة قريبًا بعد استكمال الإجراءات اللازمة. كما شكر وزارة الداخلية والمحامين والقضاة الذين سيساهمون في تخفيف الاكتظاظ داخل السجون. وأكد أن القضاء لن يميز بين سجين وآخر، موضحًا أن هذه الخطوات تأتي في إطار خطة شاملة لمعالجة مشكلة الاكتظاظ في السجون وتحسين صورة لبنان.

نصار أكد أيضًا أنه ستُتخذ إجراءات إضافية لتعزيز التعاون بين وزارتي الداخلية والعدل لتفعيل عمل المحكمة في سجن رومية، مما سيساهم في تسريع المحاكمات وتخفيف الضغط على السجون.

من جانبه، أشار الوزير الحجار إلى أن التحدي الأكبر يكمن في الاكتظاظ الكبير في السجون، وأن الجهود تُبذل لمعالجة هذا الأمر عبر تسريع المحاكمات وتفعيل محكمة سجن رومية. وأوضح أن الهدف من هذه الإجراءات هو تسريع البت في ملفات الموقوفين لتخفيف الضغط على السجون اللبنانية.

وفيما يتعلق بالانتخابات البلدية، أعلن الوزير الحجار أنه وقع اليوم دعوة الهيئات الناخبة للانتخابات في جبل لبنان، مشددًا على أن الانتخابات ستُجرى في مواعيدها المحددة، بغض النظر عن المناقشات الجارية داخل مجلس النواب.

Nassar Reveals New Mechanism to Activate Rumeih Court: “We Will Not Differentiate Between Prisoners”

A meeting was held at the Ministry of Interior under the leadership of Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmed Al-Hajjar and Minister of Justice Adel Nassar, with relevant parties present, to discuss the issue of prisons and expedite trials in Lebanon. At the end of the meeting, Minister Nassar announced that the goal was to activate the existing court at Roumieh Prison and ensure that the procedures followed respect human rights and the right to defense, emphasizing that everyone is working positively to make these efforts successful.

Nassar added that the court will begin operating soon after completing the necessary procedures, and thanked the Ministry of Interior, lawyers, and judges who will help alleviate overcrowding. He confirmed that the judiciary will not differentiate between prisoners, clarifying that these steps are part of a comprehensive plan to address the prison overcrowding issue and improve Lebanon's image.

He also emphasized that additional measures would be taken to enhance cooperation between the Ministries of Interior and Justice to activate the court at Roumieh Prison, which will contribute to expediting trials and easing the pressure on prisons.

For his part, Minister Al-Hajjar highlighted that the biggest challenge lies in the overwhelming overcrowding in prisons, and that efforts are being made to address this issue by expediting trials and activating the Roumieh Prison court. He pointed out that the goal of these measures is to speed up the resolution of detainees' cases to reduce the pressure on Lebanese prisons.

Regarding municipal elections, Minister Al-Hajjar announced that he had signed the call for the electoral bodies for the elections in Mount Lebanon, emphasizing that the elections will take place on time, regardless of the ongoing discussions within the Parliament.
