المؤهلات والخبرة:
- درجة بكالوريوس في مجال ذي صلة (مثل: العلوم الاجتماعية، دراسات التنمية، الإحصاء، علوم الحاسوب، وما إلى ذلك).
- خبرة تتراوح بين سنتين إلى 3 سنوات في مجال البحث التكنولوجي أو مجال مشابه.
- إتقان اللغة العربية والإنجليزية بشكل ممتاز.
- لا يشترط إتقان اللغة الفرنسية.
المهارات المطلوبة:
- إلمام تام باستخدام بيئة Linux، بما في ذلك سطر الأوامر وبرمجة Bash.
- فهم جيد لأنظمة الكمبيوتر والهواتف المحمولة وميزاتها المختلفة.
- إلمام باستخدام لغة البرمجة Python.
- معرفة بتكامل واجهات البرمجة API بالإضافة إلى نشر حلول مفتوحة المصدر وصيانتها.
- القدرة على تحليل سجلات الشبكة.
- تجربة مع بروتوكول Git.
- فهم أساسي للبروتوكولات الشبكية.
مهارات البحث:
- قدرة ممتازة على تحليل مجموعات بيانات متنوعة، بما في ذلك السجلات السرية، سجلات النشاط على الإنترنت، وآثار أدوات المراقبة.
- فهم عميق لكيفية عمل أدوات المراقبة الخبيثة، وطرق نشرها، وتقنيات اكتشاف وجودها.

الوصف الوظيفي:
منظمة SMEX تسعى لتوظيف باحث تكنولوجي متخصص للبحث في تطور تقنيات التجسس وسبل تمويلها وانتشارها، مع التركيز على تأثيرها في الدول النامية. يتطلب الدور تقديم ورقة بحثية بحلول نهاية يوليو 2025 تكشف عن عمليات شركات التجسس، وتحليل الروابط المالية والحكومية لها، وتوثيق حالات المراقبة المستهدفة. ستساهم هذه الأبحاث في جهود المناصرة لزيادة المساءلة، فضح الانتهاكات، ودفع الإصلاحات التنظيمية لحماية حقوق الإنسان في العصر الرقمي.
المهام والمسؤوليات:
- دراسة وتحليل العمليات والمنتجات والاستراتيجيات الخاصة بشركات التجسس الرئيسية التي تعمل في الدول النامية.
- جمع وتحليل البيانات من المصادر الأولية (المقابلات، الوثائق المسربة، شهادات المبلغين) والمصادر الثانوية (الدراسات الأكاديمية، التقارير الاستقصائية، الملفات القانونية).
- توثيق حالات المراقبة المستهدفة ضد الصحفيين، النشطاء، وقادة المعارضة.
- تقييم الإطارات القانونية وآليات المساءلة المتعلقة باستخدام برامج التجسس وتحديد الثغرات في اللوائح التنظيمية.
- التعاون مع فريق Threat Lab لتطوير استراتيجيات مناصرة تكشف عن التكاليف المالية والاجتماعية وحقوق الإنسان الناتجة عن استخدام برامج التجسس.
- المساهمة في المبادرات البحثية الداخلية والخارجية، بما في ذلك تطوير التقارير، الأوراق السياسية، وحملات التوعية العامة.
المؤهلات والسلوكيات المطلوبة:
- إلمام بعمل منظمة SMEX الأساسية، ووجود التزام مشترك بالقيم الحقوقية مثل الخصوصية، حقوق المستخدمين، الرقابة الرقمية، حماية البيانات، حرية التعبير، إمكانية الوصول، والثقافة المفتوحة.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Social Sciences, Development Studies, Statistics, Computer Science, etc.).
- Experience of 2 to 3 years in technology research or a related field.
- Excellent proficiency in both Arabic and English.
- French is not required.
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in the Linux environment, including command line and Bash scripting.
- Strong understanding of computer and mobile operating systems, and their differences.
- Familiarity with the Python programming language.
- Knowledge of API integration and the deployment and maintenance of open-source solutions.
- Ability to analyze network logs.
- Experience with Git protocol.
- Basic understanding of network protocols.
Research Skills:
- Excellent ability to analyze diverse datasets, including confidential records, internet activity logs, and traces of surveillance software.
- Deep understanding of how malicious surveillance tools work, how they are deployed, and techniques for detecting their presence.
- Skilled in gathering intelligence from publicly available sources such as industry reports, online forums, and specialized databases.

Job Description:
SMEX is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Technology Researcher to explore spyware development, funding, and deployment, with a particular focus on its impact in the Global South. The researcher will submit a research paper by July 2025 uncovering the operations of spyware companies, analyzing their financial and governmental ties, and documenting cases of targeted surveillance. This work will directly contribute to advocacy efforts aimed at increasing accountability, exposing abuses, and driving regulatory reforms to protect human rights in the digital age.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Investigate and analyze the operations, products, and strategies of major spyware companies operating in the Global South.
- Collect and analyze data from primary sources (interviews, leaked documents, whistleblower accounts) and secondary sources (academic studies, investigative reports, legal filings).
- Document cases of targeted surveillance against journalists, activists, and opposition leaders.
- Evaluate existing legal frameworks and accountability mechanisms related to spyware use and identify regulatory gaps.
- Collaborate with the Threat Lab team to develop advocacy strategies that highlight the financial, social, and human rights costs of spyware.
- Contribute to internal and external research initiatives, including reports, policy briefs, and public awareness campaigns.
Qualifications and Behavioral Competencies:
- Familiarity with SMEX's core mission and shared commitment to human rights values such as privacy, users' rights, digital surveillance, data protection, freedom of expression, accessibility, and open culture.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience in writing and publishing research reports, policy briefs, or academic papers on technology-related topics.
- Knowledge of international human rights frameworks, digital rights principles, and global surveillance trends.
