الضغط الأمريكي على لبنان: مفاوضات مباشرة مع إسرائيل
ويتكوف يبرر هذا الطلب بتأكيده على أن حزب الله رغم كل الضغوط التي تعرض لها والتضييق على قدراته العسكرية، لا يزال يملك القوة للتأثير على الحكومة اللبنانية ومنعها من اتخاذ أي خطوة سلمية نحو تل أبيب. هذا الصراع السياسي داخل لبنان هو ما يجعل من الحوار المباشر مع إسرائيل أمرًا ضروريًا حسب المبعوث الأمريكي.

- على لبنان أن يتعامل مع ملف الجنوب والمناطق الحدودية بشكل جديد، ولا يمكن للأهالي العودة إلى البلدات الحدودية الأمامية قبل التوصل إلى تسوية.
التوجهات السياسية الأميركية: شروط من واشنطن للبنان
وحول بقية النقاط المتنازع عليها بين لبنان وإسرائيل، يقول ويتكوف إن إسرائيل ستظل تحتفظ بنقاط معينة حتى نحو سنة، دون أن تبت في وضع النقاط الـ13 المتنازع عليها إلا إذا سارت الأمور بحسب ما يرسمه الجانب الأمريكي. إضافة إلى ذلك، لن تقدم دول الخليج على المساهمة في إعادة إعمار الجنوب اللبناني قبل أن يتم التوصل إلى عملية سياسية واضحة ومكتملة.

In a significant development concerning Lebanese-Israeli relations, a Lebanese figure reveals that the Trump administration is determined, following recent regional developments, to open a direct political channel between Lebanon and Israel, aiming to go beyond the framework of UN Resolution 1701, which was put in place to maintain calm between the two countries.
The figure, who met with U.S. envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, in Doha, states that the U.S. administration is dissatisfied with the performance of Lebanese officials in handling “Hezbollah” and the evasive tactics employed by Lebanon, which have not led to achieving the desired results. Witkoff emphasizes that Lebanon must enter into direct political negotiations with Israel, assigning a civilian figure for this mission, with Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer, expected to represent Tel Aviv in these talks.
U.S. Pressure on Lebanon: Direct Negotiations with Israel
Witkoff justifies this request by noting that despite the heavy blows Hezbollah has faced, crippling a large part of its military capabilities, it still holds the power to influence the Lebanese government and prevent it from pursuing any peaceful step towards Tel Aviv. Witkoff adds several points Lebanon needs to consider:

- Reconstruction in the south and other affected areas like the Bekaa and southern suburbs cannot begin until a settlement with Israel is reached.
- Lebanon cannot allow citizens to return to front-line border towns before a settlement is finalized.

Regarding other contested points between Lebanon and Israel, Witkoff notes that Israel will maintain control over certain points for up to a year, without making decisions on the 13 disputed points unless the process follows the American plan. Additionally, Gulf countries will not contribute to the reconstruction of the south until a clear and complete political process is in place.
Witkoff calls on Lebanon to regulate its borders by forming a committee to demarcate its land borders with Israel and Syria, as well as its maritime boundaries with Cyprus. He stresses that any settlement on this issue must include the disarmament of Hezbollah in all regions of Lebanon, including Palestinian refugee camps.
