The sources emphasized that U.S. President Donald Trump wants to see “announcable achievements” within just a few weeks.
According to the sources, U.S. officials conveyed a clear message to the Lebanese government, warning that Trump “will allow wide-scale Israeli military movements in Lebanon” if progress is not made in resolving the outstanding issues between Beirut and Tel Aviv. This situation presents a significant challenge for the Lebanese government, especially given its recent formation after the election of the president.
The U.S. administration believes that the Lebanese government must reorganize the security situation and restore control over all Lebanese territory, with a particular focus on strengthening the Lebanese Army's presence in the southern regions. In this context, an American official stressed that “strengthening the Lebanese Army and asserting its sovereignty south of the Litani River is the only feasible solution for security and stability along the Blue Line.”
