IOM’s protection unit aims to promote and uphold migrants’ rights and support migrants and other vulnerable communities to access and exercise their rights. The unit also supports Ministries and Government entities in their roles in promoting and fulfilling migrants’ rights. IOM does so both directly and in partnership with other stakeholders, through advocacy and communication, thematic guidance, training and capacity building, convening & dialogues, thematic research, and direct assistance. Specifically, direct assistance includes case management, and protection services as well as assisted voluntary return and reintegration for migrants in vulnerable situation.
Under the overall supervision of Protection Program Manager and the direct supervision of the Senior Protection Assistant, the caseworker will be responsible for the activities mentioned hereafter.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Assist in the implementation of case management and direct assistance activities within the scope of protection programs in Beqaa, particularly in relation to onward movement activities.
- Support in the screening of beneficiaries in need of further follow up protection assistance.
- Initiate case management process, including assessment, case plan, needed referrals and case closure.
- Provide assistance at disembarkation, when requested.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
EDUCATION
Completed bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institution preferably in social work, Law, Political or Social science, international affairs, or related field.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience with protection and assistance to vulnerable population.
- Experience in relevant issues such as migration, displacement, and humanitarian assistance an asset.
- Working experience with International Organizations or INGO an advantage
- Have a knowledge of migrant’s thematic topics, i.e. trafficking in persons, labour migration, etc, a distinct advantage.
SKILLS
- Delivers on set objectives.
- Effectively supports project implementation.
- Works effectively with local authorities, stakeholders, beneficiaries, and the broader community to advance country office objectives.
Languages
REQUIRED
For all applicants, fluency in Arabic and English is required (oral and written).
