“Syndicates & trade unions, mostly political & sectarian unions, have been inhospitable to women’s leadership. While they depend heavily on women as voters, election canvassers and event organizers, few women have so far reached decision-making positions. Women’s equality is generally viewed as secondary to the party’s political and sectarian priorities. To this end, the project aims to achieve transformative change within the structures of targeted unions and syndicates by supporting them to enhance women’s role and access to decision making space, both in terms of enhancing the number of women in leadership positions, by enabling women to enhance their leadership skills and agency to push for policies and incentives to increase women’s representation in decision making within their organization and to promote measures to increase the organization’s commitment to implement policies that are fostering gender equality and women’s rights
