Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) / أطباء بلا حدود is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people in 70 countries who are affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation and our actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of neutrality and impartiality.
We offer basic healthcare, perform surgery, fight epidemics, rehabilitate and run hospitals and clinics, carry out vaccination campaigns, operate nutrition centers, and provide mental healthcare. Our activities include the treatment of injuries and disease, maternal care and the provision of humanitarian aid. Where necessary, we set up sanitation systems, supply safe drinking water, and distribute relief to assist survival.
Main Objective of the position:
In close collaboration with the Project Medical Referrent supervising the implementation of patient support activities according to MSF protocols, standards and procedures in order to empower the patient in front of his illness and treatment, beyond the purely medical aspects of care
Accountabilities:
- Assisting the Patient Support Activity Manager in assessing the patient support needs, defining the patient support strategy according to the changing medical needs and context, and developing patient support tools (counselling/education protocols, health promotion messages, etc.)
- Ensuring, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of patient support activities according to MSF protocols, standards and procedures
- Ensuring good communication and collaboration with the other components of the project and other partners working on patient support
- Supervising and supporting the staff under his responsibility, planning and organizing their work
- In close collaboration with the HR department, supervising the associated HR processes (recruitment, training, induction, evaluation, potential detection, coaching, development and internal communication) in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required
- Ensuring data collection and analysis of patient support activities (collecting reports of patient support staff, summarizing reports, etc.)
MSF Context Specific Accountabilities:
- Support Social Work Teams at Partner PHCCs (Primary Health Care Centers): Provide guidance to social work teams at partner PHCCs, particularly social workers and other team members delivering care for individuals with Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and offering Mental Health and Psychosocial Support services.
- Contribute to context Analysis and Support Needs Assessment: Evaluate the circumstances and determine the support requirements at each partner PHCC and social and humanitarian needs among patients and community, collaborating with the Medical Activity Manager and other team members.
- Mentoring and Training: Assist social work and support staff through mentoring, coaching, and training for comprehensive NCD care, which includes patient assessment, consultations, support planning, patient education, and counseling.
- Quality of Care Monitoring: Aid the partner PHCCs in monitoring the quality of social care and identifying areas for improvement.
- Training Development: Develop and deliver coaching and training programs on specialized topics like trauma-informed care or community resource networking.
- Collaboration Building: Foster strong collaboration with teams across different PHCCs.
- Health and Social Education Strategy: Work with the health promotion team to implement a strategy through coaching social work teams in partner PHCCs, assisting them in providing health education and information about resources to patients and caregivers.
- Partner Coordination for Comprehensive Care: Support teams in partner PHCCs and social workers in mapping and coordinating with partners providing health and social services for patient referrals.
- Additional Responsibilities: Contribute to other tasks as required by the line manager, adapting to operational changes.
- Support Task-Shifting Initiatives: Aid in the process of shifting responsibilities to appropriate staff members, ensuring effective and efficient service delivery.
- Active participation in interagency events – working groups, national meetings and networking with other humanitarian actors
Requirements:
Education: University degree in social work
Experience:
Required 2 years of previous experience as a social worker and previous experience in other NGO’s
Desirable experience working in a primary health care center or an outpatient health facility/ department
Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting
Languages: Essential fluency in English and Arabic
Knowledge: Essential proficiency using Microsoft Office Tools
