General objective of the job: The PSS Technical Officer equips and supports facilitators/animators/staff with the knowledge and practical skills to carry out and maintain quality psychosocial support programming.
Position in the organisation: The Psychosocial Support Technical Officer is part of the Program Quality Department, reporting to the Senior Technical Officer, with no staff management.

- Ensuring the quality implementation of Psychosocial Support within Programming
Within this result area the PSS T.O ensures that minimum standards are met as outlined by War Child Strategies, Theory of Change and Program Quality Department.
- Participate in the recruitment process of PSS facilitators by filtering, interviewing and providing feedback on the selection of the Community Based facilitators in lined with War Child standards and SOP’s.
- Building the capacities of the Community Based facilitators in the field of MHPSS, throughout the deliverance of “needs based workshops” (Minimum standards – MHPSS interventions – MHPSS approaches) and appropriate coaching/ mentoring as described by the War Child SOP’s.
- Guarantee appropriate coordination with Project managers, concerning implementation elements (feedback on facilitators performance, center observations, challenges affecting the quality).
- Coordinate closely with the MEAL department throughout all the project phases, and supports the evaluation of implemented PSS activities by advising on the appropriate tools, collecting and documenting feedback from the field.
- Coordinates with other technical departments, to ensure the integration of MHPSS within the other thematic areas.
- Provide regular reporting as agreed upon with the line manager.
- Strengthening the MHPSS services functioning across all levels.
- Contribute in the scaling of new Evidence Based Methodologies within War Child care system (Training, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, review, feedback).
- Mainstreaming MHPSS interventions into the work of other sectors (or in other words adopting an MHPSS approach) involves providing educational, CP, livelihood and YE services in a way that supports the psychosocial well-being of children, youth, and families.
- Ensure that the implemented MHPSS interventions constantly reflects the needs of Children/ Youth and Caregivers.
- Development of new materials when needed (workshops – sessions – guidance…).
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor in social studies, psychology or other relevant field.
- At least two years of experience working in the humanitarian field.
- Experience in delivering trainings and mentoring community based facilitators.
- Previous experience working with children and caregivers is a must.
