The Opportunity

The role of the Emergency Coordinator is to oversee the strategic direction of the Emergency Response Activities at National Level in coordination with the Area Manager and other SCI sectors, undertaking needs assessments; monitoring progress and evaluations, adapting existing programming to changing needs; and undertaking program development (design and proposal development). S/he will coordinate the day-to-day emergency and standard activities of the projects implemented and Emergency Response at National Level ensuring that they are implemented effectively and efficiently according to the donor and SCL’s guidelines and procedures for project governance applicable for the particular projects.

The Emergency Coordinator will be expected to present SCL at a Sub-National and National level. S/he will be responsible for ensuring that all SCL emergency and standard activities in the relevant geographic areas are done in accordance with Save the Children’s policies and minimum standards.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Master degree is a plus.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English language.
  • Minimum of 4 years of diverse experience in the Shelter and WASH sectors, including coordination of emergency responses.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with NGO’s in an emergency /humanitarian or development context.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience of line management.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience of basic construction, distribution, report writing etc…
  • Familiar with Humanitarian sector, donors, technical aspects of humanitarian Shelter & WASH, sphere standards, distribution and humanitarian principles.
  • Familiar with liaising with NGO’s and UN bodies.
  • Familiar with Emergency Activities, Assessments & Distribution.
  • Familiar with construction & WASH activities: tendering, contracting, construction monitoring etc…
  • Proficiency in AutoCad, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Good time management and organizations skills.
  • Strength in interpersonal, communication, presentation skills and team work.
  • Strong IT/database management skills.
  • Experience in using and training staff on ODK or similar survey tools.
