Humedica provides health and mental health support to Syrians and Lebanese through its teams located in Central Bekaa. humedica is planning to provide mental health support through PHCs as well as mental health trainings for PHC staff in support of the National Mental Health Program with the MoPH.

DESCRIPTION:

The Psychiatrist conducts thorough psychiatric evaluations and diagnose patients with mental, emotional, and behavioural disorders. S/he develops a treatment plan, prescribes medication, and monitors and evaluates treatment results.

The Psychiatrist will carry out his/her services in clinics supported by humedica in Central Bekaa.

WORK COORDINATION AND DECISION MAKING

The Psychiatrist reports directly to the Mental Health Officer of humedica. S/he will coordinate with MH officer and the technical team (Psychologist and Social Worker) of the clinics for technical support and follow up.

The job holder should take decisions related to the accountabilities and tasks outlined below while coordinating directly with the MH Officer. Any decision beyond her/his realm or responsibility should be discussed with the MH Officer.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • S/he will be responsible for evaluating, diagnosing and treating patients with mental health disorders. In addition, s/he will prescribe psychiatric medication, order tests and/or refer patients according to their needs.
  • Follow up with beneficiaries to ensure that they are responding positively to treatment and make amendments to the treatment plan when necessary.
  • Receive referrals from clinical Psychologists and other NGOs.
  • Interview the patient to assess his/her general physical condition, and refer when needed for a more in depth medical evaluation.
  • Order, when needed, laboratory, imagery or other special diagnostic tools, and follow up of the results.
  • Treat or direct treatment of patient, utilizing variety of psychotherapeutic methods and medications. Respect when prescribing, as much as possible, the essential list of psychiatric medication.
  • Refer patients to the hospital when needed upon consultation with the MH Officer.
  • Psycho educate patient and his/her family.
  • Follow up on the treatment evaluating the response to medication and the possible side effects and modify the treatment accordingly.
  • Document the relevant data by filling out an assessment or follow-up form for each patient visit.
  • Coordinate with humedica’s Clinical Psychologists when necessary and share relevant information concerning the patients.
  • Discharge patients from the program and refer them for the continuity of their treatment when stabilization is done.
  • Keep track of patient numbers/cases through humedica’s outpatient records, to be submitted at the end of every month.
  • Attend periodical meetings with MH Officer, Social Worker, Psychologist and the multidisciplinary team of the clinic.
  • Conduct on the job supervision observation for primary health care providers along with the trainer when required.
  • Train GPs and other PHC staff on mhGAP
  • Provide support and supervision following the mhGAP training for the trainees.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism while working or coordinating with beneficiaries, their family members and all internal or external parties.
  • The job holder should demonstrate a high level of cultural sensitivity, professionalism, politeness and objectivity when dealing with the beneficiaries under all circumstances.
  • The job holder should be able to provide structured clinical assessments and develop consistent treatment plans.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Psychiatrist.
  • Mastery of the psychiatric assessment and usage of ICD 10/ICD11 terminology
  • Mastery of Pharmacology and willingness to base prescriptions on the recommended MoPH list of psychotropic and neurological medications
  • Ability to design a treatment plan and refer patient to other professionals when needed
  • Ability to conceptualize cases from an integrative perspective
  • Completed all necessary registration with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and Lebanese Order of Physicians (LoP).
  • Specialized Trainings are a plus.
  • Previous NGO experience is a plus.
  • Trained on mhGAP with previous support and supervision experience
  • Personal interest in humanitarian work.
  • Willing to adhere to clinic schedule.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong ability to observe, analyse, report and take initiative
  • Ability to work with a team as well as to work independently
  • Ability to seek, collect, and critically analyse data and information needed to achieve the tasks
  • Clear commitment to the project theme

CONDITIONS OF ENGAGEMENT:

Working hours and days is related to several factors such as scheduled appointments of the beneficiaries, no show up of beneficiaries, weather and road conditions, and consultants justified absenteeism. Additional days might also be requested to respond to the increased demand. Therefore, the program shows flexibility in the number of working days and/or hours/month where the consultant coordinates with the MH Officer to approve any change and compensate for the missed days/hours when needed.
