ABOUT THE JOB
General objective:
Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory officer, The Laboratory Field Worker is responsible to ensure the accurate and timely collection of water and wastewater samples of SI programs maintaining proper documentation, and ensuring that Solidarités International technical recommendations, quality protocols, and procedures are followed. The incumbent will be based in Akkar or North and the surrounding areas.
The main challenges:
- Be familiar with the organization context and different departments.
- Understanding the sampling techniques.
Priorities for the 2/3 first months:
- learn about the different departments and functions within the organization.
- Adapting the standard procedures for collecting and testing water samples to suit the specific context in which the sampling is taking place.
Responsibilities and main activities:
Water and wastewater quality analysis
- Collect water and wastewater samples from various sources (Boreholes, springs, rivers, and wastewater systems, etc..) in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Fill up the daily planning sheets and work with the laboratory officer on the weekly sites to visit.
- Prepare, plan, and request from concerned departments tools and materials needed for sample analysis (lab material, equipment, etc…) upon validation of line manager.
- Transport the samples to the laboratory for testing, ensuring that they are handled carefully and in a safe manner.
- Monitor and update the stock of sample tools and equipment and ensure that all materials and tools are clean and disinfected.
- Label and record all samples accurately and maintain proper documentation.
- Ensure the safety of the lab equipment, tools, and material, against any unauthorized access or use.
- Perform field water samples during emergencies.
- Perform other related water sampling job duties as required.
Reporting/communication/representation
- Identify problems during the collection of the samples, and reports potential leaks, construction and security violations, and facility damage.
- Report to the MEAL department any request for referral/complaints from beneficiaries and/or stakeholders at the field level.
- Create and send a monthly task/achievement report to his/her line manager. The number of samples and the number of locations with no borehole, as well as any other issues linked to the sources encountered on the field.
- Keep in-depth knowledge and attend necessary training to continuously enhance her/his laboratory abilities.
The list above is not strictly definitive; an employee working within the framework of these tasks may carry out other tasks if asked to do so by his/her line manager.
The Laboratory field worker should drive SI cars and respect the driving policies set by the logistics department.

YOUR PROFILE
Education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field, it could be balanced by experience.
- Relevant coursework in water quality, environmental sampling, and laboratory techniques
- 1+ year of experience collecting water samples in a laboratory or field setting.
- Knowledge of water and wastewater sampling/analysis methodologies
- Knowledge of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programming, including technical standards, guidelines, and best practices.
- Experience or familiarity with the areas of Akkar and Tripoli is preferred.
Transferable skills
- Good prioritization and organization skills.
- Good communication, and interpersonal, skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
- Capacity to work under pressure, solve problems, and decide quickly on contingency actions.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including community members, suppliers, and other NGOs.
