Starting date: From 2024 onwards

National or International, 6 months full time contract with possibility of extension to 12 months (Applicants who are unable to work full-time in-country may still apply provided they are able to commit to conducting frequent field visits in Iraq over the next 12 months)

Salary range: According to the seniority in CDE Salary scale.

Other allowances and specific benefits might be included into the job offer package based on budget availability such as but not limited to housing accommodation, transportation costs to / from site locations etc.

ABOUT LA CHAÎNE DE L’ESPOIR

La Chaîne de l’Espoir is an international NGO founded in 1994. Its mission is to strengthen health systems to give everyone, especially children, the same chances of survival and development. We intervene in 28 countries through a global approach, focused on the child but also on mothers and disadvantaged communities:

  • Prevention and screening from the earliest age, particularly in the context of school health programs.
  • Care and surgery to meet the most urgent needs of children and their mothers.
  • Training and transfer of skills to local teams through our international network of experts in all areas of surgery.
  • Construction and equipment of hospital structures adapted to local needs.

CONTEXT

La Chaîne de l'Espoir implements projects in Sinjar, Mosul and Nasiriya. All programs are supported by the Iraqi Ministry of Health (MoH) and the French government through its Crisis and Support Center (CDCS), Expertise France and the French Embassy in Baghdad. The Madad Fund of the European Union supports the program in Sinjar for the equipment of the hospital. Indeed, since 2020, the program aims to rebuild the health system, which was previously destroyed, and thus contribute to the reconstruction and stabilization of the district. In this sense, the Sinjar French Medical Center (SFMC) is under construction to provide health care to men, women and children. It will be equipped with a mother-child unit and will be able to provide outpatient consultations. In Mosul, La Chaîne de l'Espoir is providing support and technical expertise for the reopening of the Mosul Research and Care Center (MRCC). While the Nassiriya Heart Center (NHC) is supported and monitored to provide better patient care.

POSITION AND MISSION

Under the direct management of CDE Project Manager, he/she is the lead expert for CDE to ensure the correct implementation of CDE technical support projects related to the activities.

Nurses specialized in pediatric cardiac surgery post-operative intensive care unit, for working in a cardiac surgery intensive care unit.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clinical Duties:
    • Specific monitoring and care of infants and children undergoing cardiac surgery (congenital or acquired heart diseases)
    • React quickly to emergency situations and demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in life-or-death situations.
    • Do and teach the basic rules of asepsis and dressing preparation for patients in the post-operative ICU.
    • Work closely with the head nurse on all aspects of bio cleaning and storage area
    • Work closely with infection, prevention, and control officer inside the hospital, provide help when needed in case of training or implication of protocols and standards.
  • Coaching and Training:
    • Training ICU paramedical staff and provide medical help in case needed for patients in the post-operative intensive care unit of a cardiac surgery center (in a 24 hour manner).
    • Full completion of monitoring sheets and provide training to other ICU staff about the proper filling of these sheets.
  • Quality & Procedures:
    • Development, implementation, and monitoring of application of care protocols inside the Intensive care unit.
  • Other Tasks:
    • The line manager may allocate additional tasks in accordance with the job requirements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • A valid master’s degree in nursing or BSN degree from an accredited college or university is mandatory.
  • Training in emergency response, disease control and other hospital-specific skills
  • Training certificate/Diploma in Intensive care unit will be a strong advantage.

Professional experience:

  • Previous experience of working as an ICU nurse for at least 5 years in post pediatric cardiac surgery intensive care unit is mandatory.
  • Previous experience of working as an ICU nurse in post-cardiac surgery intensive care unit (for adults) is a strong advantage.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALITIES

  • Strong organizational abilities and good communication skills
  • High-level interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with patients’ families during stressful experiences.

Languages: Good verbal and written communication skills in English is mandatory & Arabic is advantage

Kurdish would be an asset.
