Context

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Under the overall supervision of the Head of programs and the direct supervision of the Protection program manager the Senior Protection Assistant will be responsible for the following activities:

Responsibilities 

1. In close coordination with the Protection Program Manager, provide specialized assistance in the implementation of assigned protection projects, overseeing financial, administrative and technical aspects, in line with IOM’s policies and procedures, as well as donor requirements in IOM’s sub-office in Tripoli.
2. Monitor assigned project expenditures and coordinate monthly funding requests for the project activities.
3. In close coordination with the Protection Program Manager, establish and maintain strong partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including implementing partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders in the region covered by the sub-office.
4. Prepare regular reports and ensure proper information exchange on all operational aspects of projects with the supervisor and relevant staff.
5. Supervise and train the assigned staff.
6. Contribute to project development, and provide relevant inputs to briefing notes, reports and talking points as assigned.
7. Plan and coordinate the delivery of workshops and trainings in a timely manner.
8. Participate in relevant meetings, workshops and working groups as assigned.
9. Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications 

Education

• School diploma with six years of relevant experience; or,
• Bachelor’s degree in political or social sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience.

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience

• Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations.
• Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
• Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.

Skills

Knowledge of Lebanese migration context, challenges faced by migrants, protection gaps and responses implemented by UN and NGOs, Community-based initiatives

Languages

For all applicants, fluency in English and Arabic is required (oral and written).

IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

This selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible to be appointed in a similar position for a period of 24 months.
