Amel Association International (Amel) is a Lebanese and non-sectarian NGO created in 1979.
Amel works through 27 centers, 6 mobile medical units, 2 mobile education units and 1 protection unit,
and for more than 40 years has supported the poorest regions of Lebanon, from Beirut and its South
Suburbs to Mount Lebanon, Bekaa and South Lebanon. Amel offers accessible services for all in the
following fields: food security, health, education, protection, child protection, gender-based violence,
livelihood, promotion and protection of human rights, and rural development.
Assignment:
In close collaboration with the Health Coordinator, the Medical Coordinator’s main
responsibility is to provide the technical oversight to the day-to-day activities of Amel’s Primary
Healthcare Centers (PHCCs), Dispensaries and Medical Mobile Units (MMUs).
The Medical Coordinator is based in Beirut with frequent visits to Amel health centers in Mount-
Lebanon, Bekaa and South Lebanon. She/he works full time: 8 hours per day/ five days per week. He/she
is required to conduct frequent field visits and work unconventional hours whenever there is a major
event/activity.
Main Responsibilities:
1- Overall coordination
- Ensure that the credentials and skills of the physicians contracted or volunteering are appropriate for the relevant medical project.
- Conduct regular visits to Amel owned and supported health facilities
- Work with the program team and contribute to the selection and recruitment of new physicians
2- Technical Support
- Ensure and oversee all clinical Care (PHC) components are implemented according to the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and WHO quality standards. Areas of concern include reproductive health, integrated management of childhood illnesses, nutrition, communicable disease control and management of non-communicable diseases.
- Provide technical support to the pharmacy leadership team to ensure that procurement is in line with updated medical guidelines and to ensure the quality of services provided at the PHCC
- Develops and oversees collective health training activities, to include the medical aspects of the program, in the context of Primary Health Care in Lebanon
3- Quality of Care
- Ensure compliance with protocols including accurate coding of diagnosis and that cases are managed according the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health (MoPH algorithms;
- Conduct medical records assessments and in collaboration with the Quality Officers
- Ensure that an action plan is in place for each PHCC;
- Ensure physicians are prescribing drugs, laboratory and imaging test rationally in coherence with recommendations of the MoPH and WHO;
- Drafting and monitoring the execution of SOPs and policies related to medical practice
4- Representation
- Represent Amel in meetings with international and national stakeholders as assigned.
5-Qualifications
- Work experience: Proven clinical experience in national health facilities and previous experience working with NGOs as clinical health staff.
- Advanced problem-solving skills
- Computer Skills: Excellent knowledge of the MS office software including Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, knowledge of Phenics is an asset.
- Excellent communication and diplomacy skills
Willing to travel around the country to provide technical support to Amel supported
health facilities.
