Duties & responsibilities
- Conduct research to identify and map out innovative methodologies that can enhance agricultural production, resource conservation, and environmental sustainability.
- Source out and identify local/international partners and community initiatives who are implementing complementary work and explore possibility of collaboration.
- Plan, develop, and design efficient agricultural work plans and systems to enhance the implementation of the projects that are running under the “Crops that Yield” program.
- Assess the environmental impact of agricultural practices and propose eco-friendly solutions to minimize negative effects on ecosystems and natural resources, depending on the project work scope.
- Collect and analyze data related to crop yields, harvesting, plantation, weather patterns, soil composition, and other relevant parameters related to agriculture. Use this data to create models and simulations to optimize agricultural processes, predict outcomes, and make informed decisions.
- Develop and implement strategies for crop and livestock management, including monitoring growth, disease prevention, and nutrition optimization.
- Collaborate with other agricultural professionals, farmers, researchers, and stakeholders to exchange knowledge and join forces on projects related to agricultural practices.
- Provide training and support to farmers and agricultural workers regarding the adoption of new technologies and best practices.
- Works closely with the Head of Operations and Finance Manager to conduct cost analysis for agricultural projects, including budgeting and financial planning.
- Address technical issues with agricultural equipment and systems and develop maintenance protocols to ensure the longevity and reliability of machinery.
- Evaluate and analyse potential risks in agricultural operations and propose risk mitigation strategies.
- Support the Head of Programs in providing strategic direction and planning for the project in line with the organization policies, the government strategy, and the donor requirements.
- Follow up with the MEAL team to ensure that the indicators of the activities mentioned in the logical framework are met and target groups are reached.
- Represent the organization at a national level in the relevant agriculture sector and participates in related meetings with donors and other relevant actors, including the local authorities, international and national NGOs.
- Contribute to drafting proposals based on donor organizations’ strategic priorities and application procedures.
- Perform any additional tasks, when requested by the Head of Programs.
Report to: Head of Programs
Supervisory Responsibility: Field Officers
Collaborates and Works with: Operations Team, MEAL Team, and external stakeholders.
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural engineering, Agribusiness, Agricultural Sciences, or a related field.
- Master’s degree in business administration is a plus.
- At least 7 years’ experience in managing agricultural projects, and 5 years’ experience working with different farmers in various regions.
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage projects related to agricultural development and improvement.
- Strong understanding of agricultural machinery, irrigation systems, soil science, crop management, and precision agriculture technologies.
- Proficient in identifying challenges in agricultural systems and developing innovative solutions to address them effectively.
- Maintain technical understanding of environmental regulations and a commitment to implementing sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
- Additional certifications or specialized training in specific areas of agricultural engineering are advantageous.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences, including farmers, stakeholders, and fellow researchers.
- Demonstrate strong English and Arabic oral and written communication skills.
